Obtain Data

Two advanced tools allow dedicated data download, providing access to a range of gridded and location data, including application-ready products. Additional datasets are available on request.

Download of individual model datasets is subject to Acknowledgement of the Terms relating to data download and the and the Climate Change in Australia Terms of Use . You will be asked to agree to these terms each time you download a dataset. If you do not agree, you will not be able to download the data.

Gridded Data Download

Use this tool to download gridded individual model data from the full set of models. Available data include (data type available depends on the variable):

  1. Gridded monthly change data at native model grid
  2. Gridded seasonal change data at native model grid
  3. Gridded annual change data at native model grid

Gridded data can be downloaded in multiple formats:

NetCDF: A multi-dimensional data format widely used for climate and other 'big data' dataset.
csv: A text file format that opens directly in spreadsheet software such as Excel or Calc.
JSON: A Javascript object.
ASCII: A geospatial compatible format that can be used in some GIS packages. Note that not all available model data are compatible with this format making conversion unreliable. If the download fails, choose a different format.

Horizontal datum: All gridded data are on the WGS84 geographic datum.

The free software, Panoply is useful for viewing NetCDF data and can also export data to text and csv formats.

Location Data Download

Use this tool to download single-model data for individual high data quality locations. Select from the full set of available models. Available data include (data type available depends on the variable):

  1. Application-ready daily time-series
  2. Application-ready monthly time-series
  3. Application-ready seasonal time-series
  4. Tabulated future seasonal climatological averages for four RCPs, four future time-periods, for all available locations (single csv/Excel file)
  5. Tabulated future annual climatological averages for four RCPs, four future time-periods, for all available locations (single csv/Excel file)

These data are provided in NetCDF format. This is a multi-dimensional data format widely used for climate and other 'big data' datasets.

Additional data available on request

A large range of datasets have been developed but some are too large to be downloaded using the tools. To obtain copies of the following, please submit a Data Request Form (see contact us ).

  1. Application-ready data at 0.05° (approx. 5 km) grid, as monthly, seasonal and annual 30-year time-series.
  2. Application-ready data at 0.05° (approx. 5 km) grid, as monthly, seasonal and annual averages.
  3. Application-ready rainfall data for locations, as monthly, seasonal and annual 30-year time-series.
